I am a noob to the search engine world, so please excuse the potential ignorance.

While most sites have some sort of page ranking in the Google toolbar, when accessing the site I am in charge of the bar is completely inactive, and the alt tag over it says "Current Page is not ranked by Google".

Could someone please shed some light on this for me - specifically, what do I have to do in order to have the site ranked? The site is returned as the top result when I search for the company name, so Google must be aware of its existence. So, it's only the ranking issue that is causing problems. What do I do? TIA for the help and advice.

If it is showing up on a search the site must have been indexed by Google before... what was the circumstances when it stopped being seen by PageRank? (At first, it sounded like a new unindexed site)

Hello, dynamo and welcome to WebmasterWorld:O) Have you checked out the Google Knowledge Base [webmasterworld.com] yet? That's a great place to get started.

I'm not a Page Rank expert, like a lot of people here, but I would strongly suggest submitting your site to DMOZ [dmoz.org] if you haven't yet. I know your site will earn a PR from being listed there.

Good luck!

I am not sure whether it was ranked in the past. However, another interesting oddity is that about a month ago I was able to generate a list of "backwards links", yet when I tried doing it today it returned absolutely nothing. I know that the site has been indexed because I can search for specific bits of text that are within the pages, and it returns the pages without a problem. I have never had a problem like this, and I have never had to do anything about page rank at all - I guess it kind of has been "taking care of itself".

A friend of mine suggested that the site may simply be getting re-indexed, whcih is causing both of thse issues. Could anyone please confirm that is the case, or do I have a much bigger problem on my hands?

How many links were on your list, and do they still link to you?

I didn't get a chance to follow/look at all of them, but there were 10+ pages of some sort of mention/link to the site.

Ok, here is another weird bit: only 1 page out of the whole site (the partner page) has a ranking. All other pages still have the gray bar, and the "Current Page is not ranked by Google" alt menu. Ideas, anyone?
