Flash intro problem with google indexing

Site dropped from index after adding Flash intro and redirection

Hi all,

My clients´ site was ranked in the third page of google until she asked me to replace the contents of the index.shtml page and put a flash introduction animation which would redirect to an index2.shtml when finished. My guess is that google only follows html links and not flash redirections. I tried going around this problem by adding a <a href=> tag pointing to the index2.shtml page with no text showing (I don´t want to ruin the appearance of the intro), but no dice.
Can anyone help,please?

Thanks in advance.

Vinicius, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

You're right, Google won't follow the redirect that's within your Flash file. But users today pretty much expect to be able to bypass a Flash intro if they choose to -- if you just place a text "skip intro" link on the page under the Flash movie, you'll both give them that option and give spiders a link to follow.

Vinicius

Google follows Flash links. However, I had a problem as long as my swf file wasn't in the same directory as the html file. Google was looking for links relativ to the swf file and not (as aspected) relativ to the html file.

Independently, I would also add a text link.

JayC, I placed the "skip intro" inside the flash file (for those who don't have time to wait for it to load). The url is www.example.com.br for those who want to take a look at the code.

so, the link <a href="index2.shtml"></a> wouldn't work? I really would like to keep the swf occupying 100% of the window.

Rather than putting the skip intro inside the flash file, put it outside and below. I don't even have flash installed so I would probably never reach page 2 of your site.
