I had a phone call today from a company offering to send us traffic from sites in the US selling the same "widgets" as we do. We are based i the UK. As far as i could work out this was on a sort of ppc basis (4.5p / click). The guy said this was achieved using the ip address of the UK users, stumbling upon American sites.

Would this have any ramifications for our own rankings especially on Google if a person were to search for widgets, click on a site but be directed to us?

cheers in advance

Yep it certainly was Matrix Traffic. Just had the guy on the phone again, one of these pushy advertising types. You know the ones when you answer the phone they say "hello can i speak to the person who deals with your website". And then they tell you that they can guarantee you good rankings for the word "widget" even though the blatently havent bothered to check your serps for the word "widget".

I have had them too.

Asked for examples of sites in the US that supposed to have sign up with this system.

They managed to quote me one url, that had no back links and I could not access.
