Links in images map

I would like to know if spiders are able to follow links in image map such as :

<map name="FPMap0">
<area href="Default.htm" target="_top" shape="rect" coords="8, 1, 61, 17">

The only links spiders will follow are what they can "see" on the page they are spidering. So if there is a link (URL) on the page that can be spidered (javascript may also make links invisible to spiders) then it may be followed, otherwise the spider will not be aware of it.
