Third Party Search Engine Submissions

Do they work?

I've been sent lots of offers from companies specialising in Search Engine submission and although I feel I have the knowledge to submit our site myself they still seem to be very reasonably priced.

So for less than £7 ($10) per month I can get my site submitted to the search engines while I can concentrate on more time consuming issues like making sure the site actually works! I have a fairly big budget for the site so is it worth paying this small amount or is there some kind of catch, like it not working.

As far as I can see they do not touch the code of the site so I would still retain control over META tags etc..

Has anyone used a third party for submission before and if so was it successful?

or try site search. IMHO such services are likely to do more harm than good.
