Effects of changing site submissions

How will reverting to an older version of a site effect our rankings?

The organisation I have started with has just (against advice) reverted to an older version of the same site. But, submissions had already been made to SEs regarding new content for indexing.

Page contents and links are substantially different, and possibility of duplicate content raises its ugly head.

Anyone tell me how this is likely to affect our rankings with Google / Yahoo in particular but also others?

Hi space_bum and welcome to wmw. I believe that for google you won't get penalized as the new crawl will show that the content is different from the last crawl and will be indexed on it's merits. For yahoo you really don't need to worry at all once you are in the directory.
