domain splitting & getting banned

two quick questions

I have 1 static IP, I want to park other domain names on it and use a CGI script like domain director to run them like virtual domains. Is this OK for the SE's or will they not seperate each site? Is it better to host each name on a separate IP?
I have seen a lot of scare stories on other forums about getting banned for resubmitting too often, one guy claimed the search engines dropped him cos he had a WPG banner on his page. Seems unlikely to me. Is getting banned for normal kind of stuff (not cloaking, spamming, keyword stuffing etc.) very likely? I mean there must be lots of people who use a couple of those free autosubmittrs a day and resubmit the same engines. It may not be smart, but its not really a determined attempt to outwit the purpose of the engines. Is getting banned something to worry about in general submitting?

Yes, I believe that's the general consensus here.

The scary stories all seem to have a grain of truth in them, though individual circumstances depend on the particular engine. Some, like the WPG banner seems a bit like urban legend.

I do something similar to what you are suggesting and so far have had no problems with it. The search engines do list each site individually. I am careful not to over-submit though.

I think the real question yet to be answered, is if all the search engine spiders full obey http 1.2 with its virtual domain usage? There are alot of spiders you can use and buy that won't. All of the LWP based spiders do not support it. None of the majors are using that of course, but there are some minor engines you run into that are using it.
