When your site is complete, and ready for submission, to which directories and search engines do you submit it to? I have a vast idea of where to go, but everyone seems to be powering somebody else and I never know which ones index the fast and are the most useful, any information is valued, thanks!

Direct Submissions:
AltaVista
Google
Fast - Alltheweb
Yahoo (you don't have to use Biz Express but if you have the bucks it might not be a bad idea)
Hotbot (uses some INK but can't hurt to direct submit)
Answerz (Inktomi)
Canada.com (Inktomi)
ODP (dmoz.org)
Direct Hit
Northern Light
LookSmart (hard to say if it's worth the $$$ or not)

That's a start - anybody else?

Add NBCi LiveDirectory (Rah, Rah, Sis-Boom-Bah! A little cheerleading never hurts. LiveDirectory does a great job for me.)

K7, this websnapshot chart from will help you set your priorities [websnapshot.mycomputer.com]. Make no mistake, however, if you "hit" your keywords dead-on, even a .4 SE can refer tons of traffic.

What about:

Infoseek
Excite
Webcrawler (although it is catatonic right now)
Lycos

Oilman, is there a reason you didn't include these?

However, these engines are NOT quick to index...but it might still be a good idea to submit to them.

Also, About and Goto (If you're willing to invest the pay per click money)

About is hard to get into, but it's worth it to at least check it out and try to get them to link to you.

No reason - I got called into a meeting and figured I might as well just post what I had typed and come back later. Seems you guys filled in the gaps nicely. ;)

The goo.ne.jp submission url is wrong. In fact just a few days I saw the same url at another SEO guidance site and it was still wrong, you get a 404 message.

I did get to the url submission by going to goo.ne.jp and moving around the mouse, until I saw help in the bottom bar of my IE browser, and then similarly went to the add url somehow. Will try to find the right url, easiest is if you know someone how can read out the japanese instructions on the site.

The submit button is on the left and the add url is the lower of the two boxes

Hi ranjit welcome to WebmasterWorld,

The URL is [goo.ne.jp]

If you are struggling on sites such as this dip into the source code, it will help you find your way around.

[added] hehe ranjit, we were posting at the same time, you are quick on the draw. ;)
