I've never really dealt with servers at all, but have recently been given the opportunity to take over as Webmaster for a large company. The database is managed by MS SQL 2000, and of course I will have seasoned programmers working with me that can carry the lantern into dark places until I learn...

What I'm trying to find out is if there is anything I should know about moving all of these files from the existing server to the new server. Are there any suggestions on how to insure a smooth transition?

Also, what would be the proper way to get all of the files from the other server in the first place (remember no experience here;))?

Thanks for any insights...

If you are on a Windows Network, all you need to do is to set up the web site on the new server, then copy all the files to the new directory on the server.

You might have to rewrite your connection strings if you didn't use ODBC.

That's all I see. I use W servers in my office and I keep a working backup of the entire site on another server. When I make changes on one, I just drag the file to the backup set. Both work.
