i ran a site search to see if this question has been asked before, and it was asked back in july last year. the only information about cookie usage was dated 1999. has anyone got any more up to date figures for the number of users that allow cookies by default?

My stats tell me this year 98.8% of visitors had cookies enabled, 0.07% had them disabled and 0.05% were not known (shy?).

For both pro and home edition they are enabled but prompt the user with a security warning the first time a cookie is detected

My stats agree with tbear. About 1% of sites my company tracks block cookies or can't use them.
