In my log files, my index page is listed as simply: /
When I click on that, the page that is returned is [nameofmysite.com...]

Why doesn't the "www" show up? Is that important? How do I fix it?

the www is not needed

your address is

[mysite.com...]

depending on how your server is set up typing this into the address bar will go to your defult page normally index.html

you will probably find anything to the left of "mysite" is not important unless you have specifically set up subdomains on the server, for instance with my host

bbb.mysite.com
cc.mysite.com

will all resolve to my default page.

i don't think it matters how your log files list your pages, what is more important is making use of the log results once you have them.

I believe what can make a difference is how incoming links are set up. If some are set up to go to www.domain.com and others for domain.com there could be confusion in the count. Where links are concerned it's better to stay with one or the other, uniformly. Both will get there, it's the link count that could be affected.

Thanks for that Marcia and Click Watcher. It seems my default page is [mycompanyname.com....] There are links to both that URL and [mycompanyname.com...]

Can anyone tell me where I change this or if I should change it? I did not set up the original site and don't know where this information is stored?
