Background:
In order to build a community around our site, we'd like to allow visitors to build their own website using an online wizard. Each site thta was built could consist of up to 10 pages.

Current Situation:
Instead of developing the program ourselves, I was hoping that there might be some free product out there that we could use (why reinvent the wheel)..

We're almost looking for something as simple as an AOL homepage package and/or a Geocities thing.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I tried to do some searching at Google, but the results weren't pointing me to something we're looking for.

Does anyone know of a free software package that would allow us offer free website building to our customers.

Again, we are looking for something REAL REAL simple for our visitors to use.

If you've got someone tech-savvy to install the initial system, sites like hotscripts.com and cgi.resourceindex.com usually have a selection of perl scripts that can handle that sort of thing... prices range from free on up.

It's not free ($299), but homefree [solutionscripts.com] is one of the best out there. When you get into this type of app, you'll find that the behind-the-scenes admin functions required to manage it are considerable. Homefree has done an excellent job in on that side of it. As for the user interface, I thought it was slightly overbuilt for the novice, so I made slight modifications --such as deleting rarely used options. My version is now the K.I.S.S. version.

Community Architect is the place to go. They allow you to keep control of your site but give out the "subdomains" (ie theirname.iwannabefamous.net) while you keep control over the main part of the site. I use them for my iwannabefamous.net site.

They've got some decent templates and webpage-building tools to make it easy for people. And it's free (even though they take 50% of the ad space). www.communityarchitect.com .
