Best app for manipulating animated Gifs?

I have an animated gif that I want to make a header out of. I want to add more space to the right of it where I will put the title of my site. I have GIMP but can't for the life of me figure out how to manipulate animated gifs in it. Is there a better program out there to do this kind of task? What kind of apps do people around here use for animated gifs?

A long time ago I used a program called GIF Movie Gear and it worked pretty well. I just googled it and seems it's still around with a free trial download. Might be worth a look.
