Downloading vCard Links in a browser

Why do they sometimes give a plain text file?

Why is it that sometimes a vCard link produces a proper download, that then gives you a contact in MS Outlook, or Apple's address book, but sometimes when you click on a vCard link it just gives you the text version of the file, with all the vCard formatting?

I've tried finding a vCard link that works, downloading the vCard, then uploading it to my own webserver, with a link. But when I click that link, I just get the text view of the vCard file in the browser.

Is it something to do with MIME types or content types? Mysterious...

To be more specific, to see a vCard download that works, go to the ClearLeft website.

To see one that doesn't, go to the pixelenvy website (which has a .co.uk extension) and try to download their one.

I've tried reconstructing the one that works on my local server, using the same code & file, and it doesn't work. Maybe it's something to do with making the browser treat the link as a download instead of just displaying the file. It is something I can do to Apache?

Hmm, sure is lonely in here.

Perhaps I'll post in the Apache forum.
