Linking to a listserv

Anatomy of a listserv URI

I would like to link to my client's "posts" on a listserv.

(Background, skip: He has made about one highly topical post each week for the past few years. I plan to move some of the classics over as full text when time permits but in the meantime (as a service to his clients) I would like to link to them.)

On analysis the URIs can vary (depending on how they are accessed with things like my username etc) but there does seem to be a basic anatomy that includes the ID of the list and an ID of the post.

The list owner tells me that the URLs may change overtime but I am trying to confirm with someone who knows the technicalities of listserv if this is true and, if it is, is there some other way of linking.

For example, when I see the list of posts they are numbered (say) 1, 2, 3, 4. It appears to be sequential over the life of the list (the oldest is #1). The address winds up being something like

<listservserver>/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind9206&L=<listName>&P=R297

1) Is it true that the unique address for the post can change over time?

2) Can I somehow link using the user visible post number?
