Do you link to your root level pages like this?

www.example.com/index.htm
www.example.com/sub/index.htm

If so, how come? Are you aware of the pitfalls of doing this?

No, I always link to just the slash. There are several reasons:

- Dup content
- Thinking of the future. If I want to migrate from htm to php, then the indexing won't be affected.
- I just hate the way extensions look.

And, I've not mentioned the plethora of other pages that are set as root level pages. :(
