http service crasing alot

The server is running Apache/2.0.52 (BlueQuartz)

I need to get my log files to local pc to do some analysis

Log files/folders are chmod to 550 so i cannot view them with ftp

how can i copy log files to an ftp accessable dir using ssh?

i see alot of http shut down and restart lines in this log file...

/var/log/lastlog

how can i get this file named lastlog (htis is the file) to a readable dir?

also what other log files should i be looking at to find these apache http crash info?
