While checking one of my sites via whois dot sc, I keep getting a "Response Code: 206". I know that it means that only partial content is being returned. I just don't understand why.

Does anyone know why it registers 206 instead of 200 and could this reponse code cause any other negative consequences?

Thanks in advance.

Because the client asked only for partial content [w3.org].

I wouldn't worry about this from a "I think my site is broken" standpoint. Rather, I would investigate the user-agent and IP address, just to make sure that it's a legitimate user or robot, and not a 'site update checker' of some sort -- they can be a big waste of bandwidth.

Thank you Jim for helping me. I also checked a few other well known sites at whois dot sc and most showed a response code of 200, but some also showed a response code of 206 - including my hosting company. Could these response codes be directly related to how this whois is pulling their additional data?
