Hi
I have 2 hosts.
I would like one to operate as the ftp domain and this is set up in the DNS with a CNAME of ftp.#*$!x.com

Is it possible to have the A-records pointing to a different web server so that requests to www.xxxx.com go to the different server?

yep, no problem.

The only catch would be that you couldn't FTP to the same server as the WWW if they have different IP addreses.
