I'm considering migrating an existing portal to a content management system and I would greatly appreciate some feedback or suggestions.

The website is currently based on MaxWebPortal and has been modded to accomodate video and an enhanced photo gallery. It has worked well for users, but the management - especially for multimedia and embedded images - has become rather cumbersome. Additionally, it's more cost effective for me to host the site on a Linux server instead of the Windows server where the site is now located.

Here are some of the features that are absolutely necessary. I would prefer that these features be built in or can be added through plugins and modules as opposed to modifying the CMS code:

Member management
Forums
Photo gallery (Coppermine plugin would be good)
Calendar (user submitted)
Link directory (user submitted)
Video (FLV embedded in front page posts and articles)
Flexible layout and themes
Simple navigation

The following features would be nice but are secondary:

User blogs
User photos
Instant Messaging

So far, I've looked at Drupal (no image management), WordPress (no forums), PHPwebsite (cumbersome workflow), and various portals but nothing seems to fit.

Any ideas?

I've looked at Drupal (no image management)

Eh? There are more then a few modules [drupal.org] for Drupal that handle images, Image [drupal.org], Image Assist [drupal.org], Gallery2 [drupal.org], AcidFree [drupal.org]. Looks like nobodies taken it under their wing to integrate Coppermine though.
