I'm considering setting up a personal website, and I was wondering how hard or costly setting it up with https is? I really have no clue, so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

It's not that difficult to do. If you control the web server itself, you would buy a certificate from somewhere like GoDaddy (don't spend a lot of money), and install it yourself.
If you are on a shared host, ask the provider if they have a shared one you can use.
It's not that complicated.

My hosting provider lets you use a shared one, but then the URL is something like [server.host.com...]
I spent about $50 and just bought a person one. Why would you want to get s security cert for a personal site?

Each certificate comes with its own set of install requirements.
You need to be sure that it will fit in your environment and that you are able to perform the install from a tech and permissions point of view
