I am thinking about getting a new server, specifically a MySQL server. But I am rather confused about what is 64 and what is 32 bit, and whether it is worth it to go 64.
So, first off, is MySQL (I see it is now out at v. 5) a 64 bit program?
Second, the new FreeBSD v6 is confusing (to me, at least) I woould assume the i386 branch does NOT support 64, but there is an ia64 branch. But that does not seem to be a good version- just teir 2. There is an amd 64 branch- any word on that?
I wuld prefer to use a Xeon 64- Supermicro supports that, but does FreeBSD or MySQL?
Thanks!
Dave
I think it will be a little way off before we can expect so see wide spread support for 64 bit across both the operating system and application level.
There may however be ports, of development packages that will be released by Mysql.
