Windows, Hivemail, PIPE Gateway - Possible?

Im currently trying to install Hivemail onto a Windows '03 server. Ive installed the software fine and now I have to install/config the email gateway. I would preferably like to use the PIPE option but there seems to be alot of conflicting views/opinions on if this is possible under Windows.

Can someone please shed some light on the matter... Do I *have* to use the POP3 option? And if so what are peoples experience on the effect it has to the server?

If it is possible to use the PIPE option then can someone please give me an idea on how to set this option up under Windows. Ive checked on the HiveMail site but as everyone knows the support is not exactly forthcoming.
