Non-open source CMS for a news portal - suggestions?

I like Mambo, Drupal, etc, but looking for a paid-for solution that works

As much as I like the open source CMS solutions, I'm looking for a cracking paid-for package to produce a couple of industry news portals.

(Why not open source? They all seem to require far too much hacking to make them work and look different to a million other sites)

I've used ArticleLive on another site and like it a lot, and while I haven't used it yet I quite like the look of Big Medium. Anyone with experience of these?

And I've also just discovered that ExpressionEngine has been used to build some pretty nifty looking portals. Again, any war stories?

Any other suggestions? I need all the usual - RSS, categories/topics, editors/administrators, etc. I don't need community-related widgits, these will be news and information sites.

You really should check out the open source project [ez.no...]

They have a great (and thoroughly tested) CMS that doesn't require you to touch the code at all. Several big businesses use it.

Many thanks for that suggestion. I did go ahead and download/install the package to test drive it, but it seemed to dislike my server set-up somehow.

So I'm still on the look out for other alternatives - paid-for (or really good open source) CMS systems which are designed for or lend themselves to news portals.

You should try Contenido. It's very easy to install and to use.

Expression Engine has good word of mouth and some of their customer's sites fit the profile you laid out.

expressionengine is simply awesome. Their templating system blows everything ive seen out of the water
