Rewriting Effects

Drop in page views?

A client of ours wants to know the effects of rewriting urls from a negative standpoint. For example, is there the possibility of a drop in page views for a certain timeframe before the rewritten urls get indexed?

I have only had the pleasure of rewriting one site so far and the effects were very positive with no drop in page views and an actual 50% increase.

All well and good, however, I need more experience to give them a better idea. Can anyone help?
