i was having some high-load issues on my server, and my admin made several changes... one of which was to set the max number of simultaneous requests per IP to 14. this seems like a safe limit (allows legit users to access server, but disallows excessive users).

the server gets about 50,000 unique users per day.

is 14 a good limit? i dont want to "offend" any search engine spiders or wouldn't want any "this page cannot be displayed" messages to legitimate users.

I'd worry less about the amount of requests and more about the IP address doing the request. There are many IPs that I would not want to grant a single request.
