assigning multiple ip's to multiple domains in a single VPS

'Don't go with virtual hosting - go with a stand alone ip.'

I use Typo3 and if you are familiar with this CMS you know that it can mount multiple web site 'trees' under a single instance and assign a different domain to each.

If I use the multiple-domain feature on say a VPS with a dedicated IP, will this be equivalent to a 'standalone server'?
