Best Way to Automate a Cpanel Based Reseller Account?

I have a few Cpanel reseller accounts that I would like to back up on a regular schedule. This includes any mysql databases. I want to back up to my home PC.

First of all are there any utilities/programs to do this? (free is a very good price)

I know that in Cpanel there are links on the backup page to:

Download a home directory Backup
Download a MySQL Database Backup

I had though about writing some kind of a script or bat file to fetch these urls and save them to my hard drive.

For the directory backup I'm not interested in the /tmp/ or /etc/ directories since they would more than likely be useless at a new host plus they take up a lot of space.

Would I be better to ftp into the home directory and just download the php/html/image files?

Any thoughts or ideas?
