Got a question. I noticed that on SERPS all of my competitors have our main keyword in their URL, for example the keyword is WIDGET. My competitor's are :
www.widget.com
www.worldwidget.com etc...
If I wanted to change my URL from www.abccompany.com to www.abccompanywidgets.com, how could I best go about it with a redirect? Would it initially hurt my SERPS rankings?
Thanks!
Phil
I have a similar query.
One of my clients is having 250 domains registered and he is offering hospitality services. He designed one site purely for SEO and one main site. The site designed from SEO view point has links pointing to main site(which is in flash).
The SEO site was there on search engines few days back but from last 5-6 days, for the same phrases the main site is showing up without any relevant content on that and SEO site is disappered. Is the any sort of redirection or SEO site is considered as affiliate for main site and hance started showing main site other than SEO site.
Thanks for your reply in advance.
About 8 or 9 months ago, and this is when this particular site of mine was only a few months old, I decided that I should have put everything in shtml instead of html. I was doing okay in the SERPs at that time. I changed all the pages to shtml and set up 301 redirects for all the pages. Yes, I dropped out of the SERPs for about a month, but I came back again.
Also, the site started out as a single page on my other website. It was doing so well that I domained a name and added it as an add on domain. I set up a 301 direct for that too and it dropped me from the SERPs for about a month.
So yes, I would anticipate dropping off the map if you make the move you're describing. But in my experience good solid pages with titles, metatags, an h1, bunches of internal links, and anchor text in links will always come back. I'd say just focus on the long term, make your moves with the 301s, and be patient.
