converting RealVideo files into another format

Hey all -- it's really important that i either a) edit a real video file, or b) convert the file format to a format more commonly supported by video editing software. This is so important... if anyone can help me out with a program that will do this for me for free, i would be more appreciative than i know how to express.

Noticed this hasn't been answered. You can use a product by Discreet called Cleaner. I've only used it a couple of times, but it lets you take media from one format and convert it to another. I've used it to make windows media files out of quicktime ones. :)
