all

i am trying to restrict access to a linux server based on county [ip block]. which is a reliable (commercial service is possible) to identify user and grant access based on geographic locations.

help appreciated

Not exactly what you were looking for hanuman, but may be a good starting point.

in the meantime i have found GeoIp by Maxmind. they do offer a free version

does anyone have any experience working with them?

they are great... their apache module sets GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE and GEOIP_COUNTRY_NAME in your enviroment so you might just need the module and a mod_rewrite line
