problems with multiple 301 redirects?

can you have several pages redirecting to one page?

I just rediesigned my site and moved it to a new server. i'm redirecting any requests for the old file names to their equivalent files on the new site using 301 redirects. some new pages have several old pages redirecting to them. Is this a problem? could the search engines see this somehow as duplicate material?

No, having several redirects pointing to the same page is just fine. As far as the SE's are concerned, you're actually removing duplicate content.
