Is Macromedia Flash Discussion Appropriate Here?

Besides the sites I run and consulting, I also provide development for a few select clients. What I'm finding is almost all now are requesting Flash animation development. Because it's now such a pervasive request, I'd like to add Flash skills.

I took at look at the Flash dev tool and it's horrible. I've heard this is a known issue and a large variety of third party developer tools have tried to fill this chasm between Flash and getting out quality animation. Has anyone had any luck with these tools? Which would you recommend to someone just getting started?
