anyone know what a good quality host should be charging on average per gig bandwidth in the US?

Shared - $1 - $3 per gig. Dedicated - $.25 - $1 per gig.

interesting thanks. I've just been quoted $2. I do know they are a very reliable host though.

$2 isn't bad - those prices are usually for what you go over your normal allotment, and you can usually try a bigger package or go dedicated to keep bandwidth overage prices low. How likely is it you would go over, anyway?
If you found a reliable host, then I wouldn't sweat it if it ends up costing a bit more for bandwidth!

I really think this question is realative. The costs of servers have gone down considerably over the past few years and bandwidth isn't as expensive as it once was. I consider our company to be highly reliable and our average cost per 1 gig of bandwidth is less than .50 cents. Granted our target clients are those who need affordable high bandwidth hosting, but given todays market I think anything much more than that puts you out of range for many clients who take the time to shop around.
