Hi,
I wanted to change some page names within my site to make them more uniform. All pages except for a few used a dash in the file name ie: red-widget.html and a couple pages had no dashes. I used the .htaccess file and it appears to have worked as those non-dash pages go to the dash files now. My question is will the search engines pick that up and eventually only display / index the new file?

It depends on how you set it in your .htaccess. You control the process through the use of response codes. The SEs react to those codes in different ways, but in ways which are widely known on WebmasterWorld.
