Im new in the computer world and im trying ti figure out new things.Question is ,i have a old computer that i would love to switch out the old hard drive and place a new one in.Being that the old drive only has 4gb.I really would love to clone the dard drive that i have on pc one to pc two when i install the new hard drive into pc two since i am so familiar with it. Is this posible and if so how do i go about doing so.I most definitely dont want to do anything illegal.i appreciate all suggestions.new hard drive will be a minimum of 20 gb.

Jolisamo welcome on Webmaster World
you might not need to 100% clone your HDD
for example from pc 1 to pc 2 there will be no needs for duplicating the OS, unless you are putting the new box together and do not have an OS CD
if that is the case and is XP you need first to contact MS before trying duplicating the OS
anyway a good sloution will be to (even temp) networking the 2 boxes and transfer whatever is need from 1 to 2

in addition please review:

[edit] I do not precisely remember the MS rules regarding OS duplication, if I am correct I think you might do it once without trouble, but after you need to get from MS a special key - someone else might have more info- [/edit]

but after you need to get from MS a special key

After a WIN XP OS is activated through Microsoft, you will have to call them to install the OS on a new machine. I've had to do it several times with crashed drives, without problems.

To dupiclate your drive may be a lot of hassle for a new computer user. Cloning programs tend to ask tough questions you might not know the answer to. Something else you may be able to easily do is to crack open your new computer and place the old drive in there as a secondary drive. Then all of your files will be on the same system, and you've gained 4gb of space on the machine. (like THAT sounds any easier to a new computer user haha) Most places you buy a PC can do that for you, and there is TONS of info about how to do it on the web.

Good luck!
