City Desk, a softare page by Fog Creek Software, claims to be a content management system that resides on the webmaster's PC, builds pages, automatically builds tables of contents, etc. and produces html pages to upload to a server.

Does anyone have any experience with City Desk or know of anything similar?

Sounds interesting. Downloading now, will test it and see what it "feels" like.

Will post again as soon as I've run it through some hoops.

Tried it a while back. From a "quick and easy" perspective, it is good. From a "limited-bandwidth-and-I-don't-want-a-serverside-solution "perspective, it is one of the best. The downside is that the creation of templates and such is governed by their proprietary tagging scheme which you have to learn and is not all that fexible. It's sort of a "hobbyist's CMS", frankly. Good for what it does and for special circumstances, but limited.

If you are inclined to put in a bit more work up front in exchange for a lot more functionlaity, try mambo, [mamboserver.com...]

rico!
