we use helmut dersch's excellent panoramatools, a java-based viewer.
here are the other alternatives as i see it, perhaps someone has some other ideas:
1) QTVR - quicktime. the problem is that we would have to restitch all our panoramas (over 30), and many people still don't have quicktime installed. for those who don't, it is a very difficult and big download.
2) Flash - as i understand it, a flash panorama pic weighs many times more than a pic used in a java-viewer - as much as 5 times more - if this is the case, it is out of the question. currently our panorama jpg's weigh between 120 kb and 180 kb (300px height). i have seen a few flash panorama viewers but have never managed to get them to work for me.
3) Explain about the msoft / sun situation and offer a link to download either version. the problem is the both versions are enormous :-)
hope someone else has some better ideas, as the panoramas are a real feature of our site :-(
much obliged
examples of shockwave panoramas can be found at
snipped
you could just alert users that they require jvm installed using a javascript :) and then redirect them to the sun ms website
[forum.java.sun.com...]
hope that helps
