Hello,

I hope someone can help me with this. I'm stuck at 640 by 480 res and 16 colors. I was trying to do some troubleshooting to help start-up go smoother and followed the directions in the windows help manual. Well, the pc starts up nicely now but I somehow lost my video card driver. At least that's what I'm assuming from what I've read so far.

To add to the problem, I don't have the win98 cdrom!

I've tried changing the video adapter via the display link in the control panel. If I let it find the best adapter, it says I'm already using the best one. If I "show all drivers" I get a list of compatible drivers but when I try to change to one of them it says I need the win98 cdrom.

Anyone have any advice? This is killing me!

Start > Run > msconfig

Click Advanced

Is the VGA box checked?

Here's an MS article that might be of help...

Thanks pageoneresults! Thankfully, I was just checking back in to let everyone know that I got it fixed. That link is helpful though. Duh, I searched for hours and never thought to go to MS' site.

Like I had said before, it was looking for a file(supervga.drv) from the cdrom but I don't have the disk. So I searched for the file on the hard drive and found it! Then I used that file path from the prompt where I got the error. That was it, the new driver loaded. It still looked like it was going to be stuck at low res but I rebooted and was back at 800 600. Whew!

Thanks again for the assistance.
