looking for alternatives to a geo-location service

just trying to shop around... any suggestions?

I came across geocode.com, and i'm trying to find a service similar to this. They take an address and give you a latitude and longitude, which one could then use to let a user specify within how many miles of something something else must be, etc. I don't know if this service, however, will let you submit only a zip code, which would be convenient, and i would also simply like to shop around and try to get the best price i can, right?

so if anybody knows of alternatives to this, hearing them would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Just to clarify: Are you looking for a service that you can input a zip code, and find locations close to that zip code?

Basically... erm... what i am trying to do 'exactly' is the following:

A user joins my site, and provides his zip code. Said user then enters a search for other members of the site who live within x miles of him. Online dating sites do it...
