hi, Could someone suggest a free alternative to vbulletin message board. I am currently running phpBB 2.0.6 and would wish that a photo could be inserted between the text..help please.. thanks

You can put images into phpBB messsages if the settings allow it. If you're not happy with them then you might do a search at somplace like HotScripts.com. They have a number of free forum packages listed.

Did you check out the hacks and mods available for phpbb? I know there are various ones available for images, so one might do what you want.

hi, i could not locate a mod ..tried their site ..what the present mods achieve is that the admin uploads the pics and then member could link ..not useful for me .. plus what are good photogallery options ..i am still searching ..if i find something good i will post it here . thanks niko

I think you need to read the phpBB documentation and support forums more thoroughly... custom/user-uploaded avatars are, indeed, possible in phpBB (specifically 2.x) -- as a standard feature, in fact.
i checked out a host of possibilities inclduing the html boards for the photographs..i dare say phpbb and coppermine is a good combination .. ( i hope dropping names is ok) awesome features. open source : a lesson for humanity cheers niko

Using both custom avatars and including remotely-hosted (hotlinked) images in forum posts is the standard way of doing things in PHPbb.

Invision Board seems to be a very popular choice these days. lot of them use that forum script.
You might alsow ant toc heck it out.
Its coded in php and mysql!
