For all of those who have been searching for this particular problem... I hope this gets Google'd.. ;-)
/usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/pop3d <-- This is the evil little file here
Problem:
An email client (Outlook, Eudora, etc) with multiple email accounts on the same server (4+) will not complete. The connection is dropped/terminated by the server.
Issue:
PLESK (PSA) uses courier imap for POP3 which means that all of your searching for connection limitations and tcp connection wrapper journeys have all been for nothing. ;-)
If you are not using PLESK, check this anyway - Many canned install scripts / packages throw these two together.
Solution:
/usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/pop3d contains an entry for MAXPERIP (Maximum Connections Per IP). This by default is 4 - Which for the life of me I cannot understand why this is so low by default. You'd think enough people would have complained as well!
Change this to something much more realistic, like 30 or as I have 50.
Hope it helps...
