My computer guru upgraded me to Windows XP and Office 2002, including FrontPage 2002 (the site was set up on FrontPage 2000) and he downloaded my website to my new hard drive. However, when I open it, the entire navigation system is gone, there is no banner, no buttons, no nothing, although the rest of the website is intact. If I look at the files individually, I see the stuff - like the theme, which has also mysteriously disappeared from view. I can tinker with the site up on the server, but not on my computer which is ever so much more convenient. Any ideas? Thanks!
First, check with your web host. If it is a quality hosting company, they keep backups. Just request from them to get the site.
Now, your "computer guru" should have, as basic as it seems, done a complete backup before upgrading. Did he/she? If not, find someone else! If so, go to your backup. As I do with my FrontPage site, I always save it in 2 places, as well as a backup at least once a week. Don't you personally have a backup?
Hope that helps, WFN
My computer guy couldn't back up anything before the upgrade because the hard drive was completely toasted.
We did the FTP download and that is what is not working. The files are there but FrontPage is not seeing the java so no navigation bar.
I will contact my web host and see what they have to say, thanks for the suggestion.
While in FP > Tools > Page Options > Compatibility
You'll typically want to select the Both Internet Explorer and Navigator option from the first dropdown.
Browsers versions 4.0 or later from the next dropdown.
And then Microsoft IIS 3.0 or later if you are on a Windows server.
Make sure to check the box Enabled with Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions.
