Problem with dns and mail

Hello,

I got a problem with my dns-server and mailserver.

I am the host of 3 domains.
They are working correctly with www.mydomain.com, all three of them.
But when I try to use mydomain.com, with no subdomain, it doesn't seem to work that well.

another problem is that anything@mydomain.com does not work.
I use MDaemon as mailserver.
I guess the problem is the same here, as I cannot use mydomain.com with no subdomain.

Any suggestions?
Any free guide how to set up the DNS server? :-)

Thanx in advance.

Make sure you have an A record for the zone itself.
And if the mail server is on another box, then add an MX record.

How exactly do I do that?

My zones are created as mydomain.com
Do you mean that my zone should be "com" and then I create a subdomain named mydomain?

Or how should I set the DNS up?

No, you should have records for the zone itself, and not just for hosts in the zone.

Ok, but how do I accomplish that?

This is how it is setup now..

DNS
- SERVER
- Forward Lookup Zones
- mydomain.com
- (same as parent folder) Start of Authority
- (same as parent folder) Name server
- * (Host)
- www (Host)

How should the correct configuration look like?

Add the records for the zone itself, just like the SOA and NS records you already have.

Check the docs for whatever name server software you are using.

Sorry,
Don't have a clue how to do that.

Anyone else know a solution?
