Download log files ascii or binary?

When i download them with cute FTP it says : opening BINARY mode data connection for access-log.

Unix based server (apache) log files should be done in ascii.

JonB, CuteFTP did automatically choose binary. I had doubts, it didn't "feel right" - binary is graphics. I just couldn't recall. It's linux/apache.
