Controlling Member Access via a Database

trying to limit access to web areas based on what they have bought

Hi guys,

I'm a virgin poster, and this might be a curly one.

I currently use 1shoppingcart.com as my cart, database etc.

When people signup as a member to my new site, I now want to give them limited access to member pages and downloads. Also, when they have bought a product, I want to give them private access to the product web pages. I would also like to know what they bought so i can recommend the next purchase.

How do validate their member logins, and restrict their access around the site based on what they have bought - when I CAN'T QUERY MY DATABASE remotely!?

Do I try and maintain a duplicate database which I CAN query?

Do I spend 50,000 trying to replicate 1shoppingcart's code? (shudder).

Do I commission a script to create a copy of my 1shoppingcart database every day so I can query it?

Is there a commercial cart/database/autoresponder/affiliate software available that is better than 1shoppingcart and that allows remote access?

Thanks very much, any help appreciated.

David
