Zip & Excel files on non-Windoze platforms

Can they be accessed by anti-MS folk?

I have a bunch of data for which there is no common file format across software packages, never mind OS platforms, that I plan to make available on my site...

Since it's a large amount, it makes sense for me to compress it with WinZip into a .zip file. I know Apple folk have Stuffit (.hqx?) and *nix folk have Gzip, but can they open a .zip file?

Same idea with an Office 2000 Excel (.xls) spreadsheet... Can someone on a Mac or using Linux get at the data?

There's nothing fancy about the spreadsheet (no formulae, macros), just comma-delimited text pull in...

Winrar, stuffit, and many other will read .zip .sit .hqz .tar .gz and many many more.

If I where you I would just put the file online with perhaps a link to winrar's homepage if they have any problems.

zip files are no problem on mac, you may want to convert your xls files to csv, or even plain text for downloading.
