Hi,

I recently purchased teh MA401/MR814 combo. I have the MR814 running on a desktop pc (running xp) and a laptop that has the MA401 card (running win 98) I am not able to get the laptop to work. The card has the green light saying there is a connection, but IE will not work.

I have exhausted all that I can think of and still no success. Any thoughts?

Westat1,

Have you taken a look at the networking tutorial on their web site [netgear.com]?

Westat1,

I can't tell from your post where the problem might be. Are you saying that IE won't load and run, or that you can't get a connection to the router, or what? Have you worked through all the settings in Internet Options->Connections and set up NetBUI and TCP/IP and all that?

There are so many things that could be wrong that without a lot more detail in the question, it's impossible to even hazard a guess at what the trouble might be.

Hey Jim,

The router is working on the desktop, including IE.
On the laptop, the card has the green light and the utility says there is a connection, but a page doesn't load in IE.
I have played around with the connections settings, but nothing worked.

I am new to networking so am not sure what else to provide.
I hooked up the laptop to the router, and it worked.

Thanks for the help

Have you checked the channel numbers and encryption settings? - They'll have to agree between the laptop and the router.

The router/desktop is set to 01 (for USA).
The laptop is set to 1.

I have WEP shut off right now.

Brokedown and called the tech support. I didn't want to do this because I heard they were terrible. To my surprise, they were great. I had to run winipcfg. Now it is working, but my new challenge is to get WEP to work.

Thanks for your help

Westat1,

So, when you ran IPcfg, what did it show that was causing the problem? Just curious...

Thanks,
Jim

Had to change the field from PPP to Netgear. Not exactly sure what that means but so far it works. Also, had to use infrastructure so there are no channels.

Will let you know how the WEP setup goes.

Thanks
