having trouble with the darn things

on my quest for making a search engine like google , as an example , I have come stuck , not knowing which direction to turn , reading various docs and faqs I am beginning to think that it is not possible. If anybody could guide me I would like help on these matters as :

1. an example script to toy around with to get the general concepts

I can speak from experience here. This is a full time job. If you are looking for ways of creating the search engine then you must first decide on a language to code it in. Once you have this, I would search for a free site search program in the same language. You can then look at the source code and see what they are doing and why.

there are some free java code.
theoretically not difficult.
but the vast internet is the challenge.
