I would like to take a line and thank all the people that make this forum great. I am totally new to this whole industry, so many of these posts are like trying to read a foreign langauge, but I am learning.

My question is how do you KNOW if a spider has been to your site? I use, well, I guess I can't say their name, let's just say they are direct, for my hosting. They allow me to put a tracking script on the pages that I would like to track. Is that where I look for the spiders?

Oh yeah, how do I get to be number one for all my keywords? Just a little joke.

Have a great night and a thank you to all that reply.

Hi Eric in Tennessee,

Love your sense of humour. Welcome to the board!

I use raw log files, but some stats packages can be real handy for quick infos like wich spiders crawled your site.

Please do mention what stat package you are using. It will be a lot easier for us to reply.

Thanks Mac,

I am currently hosting my site with directnic and they provide a script to place on the pages that you want tracked.

Should I post the script?

Hi Eric_in_Tennessee,

I am not familiar with the stat package this perticular host is using. A lot of hosts use some interface called "control panels" to interact with various thinghs on your site.

Can you get your raw logfile?

Mac,

Hey sorry, I am not ignoring you; I really appreciate the help. I just sent them an email and asked about the raw logfiles. I have no idea at this point.

So how do I get to #1? :)

Mac,

No dice on the raw logfiles. I guess I am just out of luck. I assume (you know what they say about that) that I could use some kind of third party software, but I really don't want to spend anymore money(like most of us).
Hey I really do appreciate your help.
